BibberChill 2009 is expected to be held on Saturday 6 June and planning for the event is due to get underway at the beginning of next month.

A “post-mortem” meeting of this year’s organising committee has already been held and a word of thanks has gone out to the local community for its support as well as to the many people who put so much effort into ensuring the success this year.

Chairman of the 2008 committee, Charlene Snyman described the recent festival as highly successful and as having provided useful lessons for improvements next year.

“We are looking for new ideas, whether on what artists to invite or any other specific aspects,” she said. “The more suggestions we receive the better the position we will be in to ensure that next year’s festival will be a greater success than ever. Support of the local community is essential.”

Committee member, Marli Botha emphasised that anybody willing to help for the 2009 festival would be warmly welcomed. She can be contacted on 051 683 1101 or 082 2971600.

Anja Swanepoel, who had the task of looking after the finances of the festival, tells Smiffie that at the outset the committee had a total of R108 to work with. After all expenses were paid, plus an amount of R1500 to the VVA, the committee would finish with between R10,000 and R15,000 in the books.

“That is very satisfactory,“ she said.

Pete Swanepoel, another member of the organising committee, described the success of the event as providing proof of a winning formula, which could be further improved upon without deviating from the basic concept.

There is general agreement in the committee that the layout must be changed and become more concentrated, with exhibition tents, the main entertainment tent and food stalls becoming part of a more cohesive grouping.

Suggestions have also been made that the public address system be improved so that all visitors to the festival are kept fully informed throughout the day of the start of events as well as given an ongoing commentary on the progress in each event.
